Regal Fish is renowned for delivering high-quality, fresh fish and seafood directly to customers' doors. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Grimsby—a town with a rich heritage in the fishing industry—Regal Fish has built a strong reputation for excellence in product quality and customer service.
The company sources its fish from trusted suppliers, prioritising sustainability and freshness at every stage of the supply chain. Regal Fish’s offerings include a wide variety of responsibly sourced seafood, including cod, haddock, salmon, prawns, and smoked fish, all prepared to order by skilled fishmongers. Unlike many supermarket alternatives, their products are not frozen or stored for long periods; instead, they’re delivered chilled in insulated packaging, maintaining optimal freshness.
Regal Fish had relied on its internal call centre and network of vans for delivery. When it was acquired by a local neighbour Flatfish (owned by £4.5bn turnover Japanese Nissui Corporation) there was a requirement to boost sales, revenue and coverage. Digital growth was earmarked as key area for expansion. Any online platform developed needed to integrate into Regal Fish’s legacy back-office systems and would need to support a number of key functions such as subscription, loyalty schemes as well as a compelling look and feel for existing and targeted demographics.
The Approach
Regal Fish engaged a third-party consultancy which recommended BigCommerce as the platform of choice. Powerful, robust and with a range of features that supported Regal Fish’s technical requirements it was the natural choice.
They also needed a development team that could implement the solution. After evaluating a number of options Regal Fish selected Agency51. Experts in the food and drink sector, and with leading integration skills and a track record in delivering subscription, Agency51 ticked all the boxes to deliver this complex project.
Providing a full service, Agency51 provided a new brand including livery and design) around which the look and feel of the new website was based. Integration into the van delivery routing system allowed customers to benefit from their fresh fish being delivered by vans or couriers depending on location.
