Commerce has announced a major new payment offering that promises to give merchants even more control, visibility and flexibility to grow their businesses with confidence.
BigCommerce Payments powered by PayPal is an optional payment solution built directly into the BigCommerce platform. It’s the latest tool that will shake up the way you sell for the better.
For Commerce – the parent brand of BigCommerce, Freedonomics and Makeswift – this is another move towards unparalleled usability for both merchants and customers. The new application is scheduled to launch in the US in 2026 and to roll out internationally in phases.
What will this new tool do?
The optional application brings together PayPal’s world-renowned reliability, security and global reach with Commerce’s merchant-focused platform – but what will the new tool actually do?
1. A seamless backend experience
By embedding PayPal’s payment infrastructure directly into BigCommerce, merchants will no longer need to toggle between separate payment systems. Instead, a new ‘Money’ dashboard within the BigCommerce application will provide direct access to PayPal, giving users detailed payment data at their fingertips.
2. Stronger merchant control and visibility
With real-time balance insights, top-ups and payouts, currency management and much more, merchants gain increased transparency and control through BigCommerce Payments. But this isn’t another hoop to jump through – managing payments remains as simple as ever, with your payment relationship staying directly with PayPal.
3. Access to BNPL and advanced payment features
Shoppers expect simpler, more accessible payments, and that’s what BigCommerce Payments will deliver. Thanks to PayPal’s Pay Later, buy now pay later (BNPL) options will be available through this powerful tool. Not only does this make it easier for you to offer flexible payments, but it also has the potential to increase sales when this – and other advanced payment options – are on offer.
